Major Khathing's 113th Birth Anniversary: AR sports tourney kicks off in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, February 20 2025: The Assam Rifles Sports Tournament 2025, held in commemoration of Major Bob Khathing Ralengnao's 113th birth anniversary, commenced at the district headquarters ground on Thursday.

10 Sector AR DIG Sandeep Singh officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony, accompanied by former national football player Reisangmi Vashum, while the tournament torch was lit by Reisangpemmi Kasomwoshi, another former national player known for being the youngest to score in the Federation Cup 2010 .

Speaking as chief guest, DIG Sandeep Singh paid tribute to Major Bob Khathing, remembering him as a legendary figure whose contributions to the Tangkhul community, the Northeast region, and the nation are widely recognised.

He commended the local football teams for their sporting spirit and encouraged them to uphold the same enthusiasm throughout the tournament.

The opening ceremony also featured performances from the Assam Rifles band party and Elit band, and also Gorkha dance, traditional Tangkhul folk dance by Awungtang troupe, and a musical presentation by Padmashree Guru Rewben Mashangva.

Other dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony included Ukhrul DC Ashish Das, SDO Denringam Kamei, Zila Sainik board members, Ex-servicemen Association chairman AS Pamrei, UDSA officials, and others.

The opening match saw HPFA triumph over Semka FC with a score of 7-0 .
