2nd Zeme Olympics concludes; Jalukie Town team clinches football title

The 2nd Zeme Olympics 2024, concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony on December 18, 2024, at Zenamyi village, Senapati district.
The event was graced by the presence of Armstrong Pame, IAS, director Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, as the special guest, and Koheuteung Chuilo Hau, chairman Zeme Literature Board (Northeast India), as the guest of honour.
In his remarks, Pame commended the Zeme Olympics for its progress and vision, expressing optimism that the sporting event would produce world-class Olympians from the Zeme Naga community within the next four to five years, aligning with the timeline for the third edition of the Zeme Olympics.
He highlighted the achievements of 15-year-old Mariale Pame from Impa village, a student at the National Sports Academy, Imphal, who recently won a bronze medal in the 52-kilo weight category at the Open Talent Hunt in Haryana, representing Manipur state.
Encouraging the youth to pursue professionalism in sports, Pame pledged his unwavering support to advance sports development within the community.
The guest of honour, Hau, emphasised the importance of fostering a unified Zeme literature to bridge communication gaps and strengthen ties between Northern and Southern Zeme regions across Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland.
He introduced a strategic initiative to incorporate a common language across schools, churches, and civil society organisations within the community.
The football final match was inaugurated jointly by the special guest and guest of honour, while the men's and women's volleyball finals were concluded in the presence of special guest Namke-teung Newme, retired DFO and president Zeme Council, Assam.
In the men's volleyball category, Peletkie village secured the champion's trophy, with Mbaupunggwa village as runners-up.
In the women's category, the team from Peren emerged victorious, while team Nsong took the runner-up position.
A notable highlight of the day was the "Battle of Horn," where the championship medal was claimed by a representative from Mbaupunggwa.
In a light-hearted tug-of-war contest between fans of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo supporters prevailed, humorously declaring Cristiano Ronaldo as the "GOAT" by popular fan consensus.
