RIMS set to organise Inter Batch Football Tournament

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, is set to organise its inaugural Inter-Batch Football Tournament on April 12 and 13 at the institute's campus ground.
The event, jointly organised by the RIMS Students' Union (RIMS-SU) and the director of RIMS, is being held in memory of Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, a distinguished alumnus of the institute and a recipient of the Ashok Chakra (posthumous).
According to a RIMS release, Major Jyotin Singh, an officer of the Indian Army Medical Corps, made the ultimate sacrifice on February 26, 2010, while serving with the Indian Medical Mission in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In an act of exceptional bravery during a terrorist attack on a residential compound, he confronted a heavily armed suicide bomber unarmed, shielding his colleagues at the cost of his own life.
For this extraordinary act of courage, he was posthumously conferred India's highest peacetime gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra.
Born on May 14, 1972, in Nambol, Bishnupur district of Manipur, Major Singh completed his schooling at Manipur Public School, Imphal, and earned his MBBS degree from RIMS in 1996.His legacy of valour and selfless service continues to inspire generations across the medical and defence communities, the release said.
The upcoming football tournament is envisioned not only as a celebration of athletic spirit among students but also as a heartfelt tribute to one of RIMS' most distinguished alumni.
The director of RIMS will inaugurate the event as the chief guest.
All students and staff have been invited to participate in this commemorative initiative.
