Hockey nationals: Manipur thrash Bihar 19-1

Manipur started the campaign in the 14th Hockey India Senior Men's National Championship, 2024, underway in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, by defeating Bihar 19-1 in a Pool H match.
Cyril Lugun (9th, 21st and 52nd minute), Ningombam Jenjen Singh (19th, 23rd & 50th), Laishram Dipu Singh (26th, 36th & 39th) and Bhakar Ningombam (41st, 53rd & 55th) scored hat-tricks.
The other contributors were Thounaojam Ingalemba (13th & 59th), Moirangthem Dhananjoy Meetei (10th & 16th), Ningombam Abung (38th), Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh (38th), and Waribam Nirajkumar Singh (41st).Jony Kumar (49th) pulled back one for Bihar.
Rabikanta Moirangthem was adjudged Player of the Match.
Manipur will play their next match against Bengal on November 9.The Manipur team was led by Moirangthem Rinash Meetei, Kshetrimayum Romesh Singh, Lisham England and Moirangthem Arunkumar as head coach, coach, manager and video analysis, respectively.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu began their campaigns with victories.
Uttar Pradesh defeated Kerala 6-0 (Pool F), Karnataka crushed Uttarakhand 10-0 and Chandigarh blanked Tripura 5-0 (Pool D) following a forfeit by Tripura, Madhya Pradesh outplayed Andaman & Nicobar 29-0 (Pool C), and Tamil Nadu defeated Andhra Pradesh 7-0 .
