Monsang Sports: Liwa Sarei, Japhou YC register contrasting wins in football

Imphal, January 23 2025: Liwa Sarei and Japhou YC secured victories in contrasting styles in the men's football matches of the 17th Monsang Sports Meet 2025 at Liwa Sarei Community Ground, Chandel, on Thursday.

Liwa Sarei recovered from an early setback to secure a dominant 4-1 victory over Khoriibung.

H Winner gave Khoriibung the lead just one minute into the match.

However, Liwa Sarei equalised in the 8th minute through Rezener, followed by Lightson's go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute.

Mitchel extended their advantage with a goal in the 64th minute, and Ngachomi sealed the win with a strike in the 71st minute.

In a closely contested match, Japhou YC narrowly defeated Meeleen 2-1 .

Sh Alfred put Japhou ahead in the 47th minute, but Ts Becember responded with an equaliser for Meeleen in the 52nd minute.

Kh Alwinson's goal in the 60th minute ultimately proved to be the match-winner for Japhou.

In the veteran s division, Changnhe triumphed 3-1 in a penalty shootout over Monsang Pantha, with successful conversions from Th Khamnu, Th Behring, and W Kelly.

In the U-14 boys' match, Sarei emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Monsang Pantha.

W Goodphangam, Rexener, and Kowarngam were the key contributors to their team's success.
