Indian Army celebrates National Sports Day with sports events

Indian Army on Thursday celebrated National Sports Day with events in Khurkhul (Imphal West), Keihao (Kangpokpi) and Phougakchao (Bishnupur) to promote a spirit of sportsmanship amid ongoing ethnic clashes.
As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the Army organised volleyball, badminton, and football matches in line with Fit India and Khelo India movements.
In Khurkhul, the event started with volleyball matches between boys from classes 6 to 10 of Sardar Patel High School and Khurukhul Model Standard School, followed by a badminton doubles match between girls from the same grades.
The matches were witnessed by about 300 students.
A friendly volleyball match between the villagers and the army was also held.
The Army also distributed new sports gears to enhance local sports infrastructure in schools.
In Keihao, the Army organised a friendly football match to foster peace and solidarity in the conflict-affected region.
The event saw participation from local youths.
Also, the Indian Army organised sports activities for children of Anita Standard High School and Radiant Public School in Bishnupur district, including a volleyball match between locals and children.
The activities included sack races, relay races, jalebi races, and tug of war, according to a release.
