Minister Raksha Khadse, Mirabai Chanu inspire young lifters at Weightlifting Warriors Academy

Imphal, July 09 2025: Raksha Khadse, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, visited the Weightlifting Warriors Academy in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh, under the Khelo India Accredited Academy initiative.

She was accompanied by Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu, chief national coach Vijay Sharma, Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) president Sahdev Yadav, and CEO Ashwani Kumar.

According to a PIB press release, the academy, founded by Vijay Sharma, is recognised as a model centre for excellence, equipped with worldclass training facilities, advanced sports science labs, and a dedicated nutritional mess.

As part of the Khelo India Scheme, it plays a crucial role in nurturing grassroots talent with scientific coaching and holistic development.

The residential academy accommodates 60 athletes and currently trains 40 young lifters aged 8-14, alongside 15 elite athletes, including Mirabai Chanu.

During her visit, Khadse addressed the athletes and staff, expressing her admiration for the academy's contribution to the growth of Indian weightlifting.

She remarked, "When women lift, the entire nation rises," underscoring the importance of empowering women through sports.

She also highlighted the government's commitment under Khelo Bharat Niti 2025" to create a robust sporting ecosystem that identifies, nurtures, and sustains talent across the country.

The minister observed training sessions and interacted with young lifters, encouraging them to pursue excellence.

She praised the academy's emphasis on scientific methodologies, performance analysis, injury prevention, and rehabilitation-marking a shift from conventional training approaches.

Mirabai Chanu's presence at the academy was especially inspirational for the young trainees.

As a national icon, her continued association with the academy serves as a powerful motivator for the next generation.

Her success story stands as a testament to the impact of structured training and institutional support.

Khadse commended the academy's efforts in fostering a culture of excellence and reaffirmed the government's steadfast resolve to continue investing in such vital institutions, thereby securing a brighter, more glorious future for Indian sports.
