AR organises sporting events on World Athletics Day

Imphal, May 07 2025: The Assam Rifles today observed the World Athletics Day and organised a series of sporting events across Tamenglong and Noney districts of Manipur to mark the day.

The events including friendly volleyball matches at Tamei village (Tamenglong) and Taobam village (Noney), along with an athletics competition at Azuram village of Tamenglong, were organised with the aim of promoting fitness, unity, and youth engagement in the region, said Assam Rifles in a press release.

The events drew enthusiastic participation from across the districts, with around 50 youth from Tamei, 30 participants from Taobam, and 70 villagers-including women, youth, and children-from Azuram and five nearby villages joining the activities.

The athletics competition featured 100m, 200m, and 400m sprint races, along with a high jump event, creating a lively and inclusive environment, it said.

The events were not only focused on encouraging physical fitness but also aimed to bring communities together and provide a platform for young talent, it said.

Local residents expressed appreciation for Assam Rifles' ongoing efforts in community outreach through sports and developmental activities, it continued.
