Citizen's Club, soibam Leikai averted the embarrassment of ending its first leg campaign in the MK Ghanendrajit Singh Memorial Super Division League tournament for Imphal East district at the bottom of the six team competition with a resounding 6-2 win against PYA, Kairang at Khabeisoi today.
Citizen's Club finally overcame its form slump before the second leg commences, with the Kairang side bearing full brunt from its opponent led by forward Paominsei Haokip.
Paominsei, who scored all but one of the Citizen goals, began the goal spree with his first of four goals in the match from a clinical header six minutes into the match.
Even as PYA equalised with a ninth penalty conversion through M Ibochouba, Paominsei doubled his personal tally in the 35th as N basant restored Soibam Leikai's 3-1 advantage in the hour mark and three minutes later made it 4-1.Paominsei completed PYA's rout with goals in the 68th and 76th minutes before yet another penalty award in the 78th enabled the Kairang side to narrow the loss deficit when Lengin sitlhou made no mistake from the spot.
With the win Citizen's club is placed in fifth position on four points including three losses and a draw in its previous outings and is ahead of PYA by a single point.
In the M Ibobi singh Division I football league tournament at the same venue, YDC, Potshangbam outplayed ABA, kshetrigao 3-1 with goals from Md Amir (13th), K Reegan (57th) and Ch Charanjit (73rd) while Th Bidyasagar scored the latter's only goal in the 13th minute.
