Imphal, July 28 2021: Acknowledging the stupendous performance of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in emerging the lone medallist so far at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics with a Silver in weightlifting, more and more organisations and well wishers have stepped forward to extend their gratitude.

Financial assistances have come after Indian Railways donated Rs 2 crore, the State Government Rs 1 crore, State Education Department Rs 3 lakh and another Rs 10 lakh for setting a record at the 30th Asian Weighlifting Championships at Takshkent in April this year.

Leading the way, Manipur Congress Committee dubbed her "The Great Daughter of India from Manipur" during a felicitation ceremony at Ibudhou Khamlangba Shanglen under Lamlai AC .

At the ceremony, the Congress leaders gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the Olympic medallist and a gift to her parents as well.

On the occasion, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that he felt a goosebump on hearing that an athlete from a small village in Imphal East which hardly has 200 voters and 50 households has bagged a silver medal in the biggest sporting event of all.

Interim president of MPCC, MLA N Loken stated that Mirabai winning the first medal of the country at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics is a testimony that Manipur is indeed a sports power house.

Urging the young champion to never give up on those who were with her at the time of difficulties, N Loken said that her name will be remembered by the people of Manipur eternally.

The Congress leaders including CWC member Gaikhangam blessed Mirabai to win gold in the 2024 Olympics at Paris.

Punjab National Bank also extended a cash award of Rs 5 lakh to S Mirabai Chanu.

The Bank announced the adoption of Nongpok Kaching by the Bank for complete digitalization and financial inclusion.

Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd (BIPL) Imphal also acknowledged her performance with Rs 2 lakh.

A team led by the Managing Director of BIPL, Imphal Ningombam Ibochouba visited Mirabai Chanu at her hometown Nongpok Sekmai and handed over the award in cheque.

Volunteers of United Committee Langthabal (UCL) also took part in the visit.

On the occasion, Ibochouba, who is also a chairman of UCL, stated that the award was given to Mirabai Chanu for bringing laurels to the country as well as the State by opening India medal's count at the Tokyo Olympics.

He also lauded Chief Minister N Biren Singh for his commitment to inspire many more sporting talents of the State by giving her (Mirabai) the post of Addl SP (Sports) .

Before leaving, Ibochouba gave a blessing to Mirabai for her future success.

Ibochouba also gave a cash award of Rs 10,000 to Anita Chanu, the first mentor of Mirabai.
