8th Ram Narayan Shastri Memorial Open Chess Tourney 2026 : Mangal Elangbam and 21 others register second straight wins

Imphal, June 25 2026: The 8th edition of Ram Narayan Shastri Memorial Open Chess Tournament 2026 organised by the Manipur State Chess Association kicked off today at Wangkhei High School Campus.

As many as 105 athletes registered for the 9-round tournament.

The opening day saw completion of 2 rounds and 22 players were able to register two of two wins.

Mangal Elangbam beat Kh Sanjoy for the second straight win as Gurumayum Arosemith Sharma got the better of S Premjit, Rajkumar Bhogen beat Khoisnam Kinison, Chitaranjan Taorem beat Punshiba Maisnam and Konjengbam Poireikhomba beat Jones Nandeibam for the same.

The other players who picked second straight wins include Oinam Ningthem, Ningombam Herojit, Athokpam Kishorechandra, H Somokanta, Konsam Jiban, Takhellambam Manikanta, Elangbam Shashikanta, Khagembam Premchandra, Naoremcha Yoihenba, Sinam Lawrence, Ph Rajen, Rajkumar Sudhirsana, H Ranjan, Shamurailatpam Anil Sharma, Soibam Motital, Moirangthem Sanjit and Dayanand Thoudam.
