MOA observes International Olympic Day with focus on "Unity"

As observed across the globe and the country, the Manipur Olympic Association also joined in observing the International Olympic Day at Olympic Shanglen conference hall, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The event, observed low key, was attended by Wangkhei AC MLA and president of All Manipur Mukna Association, Thangjam Arunkumar; Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports, N Praveen; hockey olympian Ksh Thoiba; Director Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr M Veto and vice president of MOA and president of All Manipur Taekwondo Association, Bobby Waikhom as distinguished guests.
Members representing various sports associations, winners of prestigious sports awards and olympians also attended the observance held on the theme - "Let's Move" Together for Health and Community.
Welcoming all the attendees, president of Manipur Olympic Association, Elangbam Sunil spoke on the theme of the celebration.
He also said that the celebration was scaled down and other events such as the Olympic run have been curbed, in view of the restive situation in the State.
The celebration may have been scaled down, but the spirit of Olympism and unity through sports shone bright, inspiring everyone to work towards a healthier and more united community, he said.
Quoting the messages of outgoing International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach, he also called upon all to join the movement towards making the Nation united and healthy.
Thangjam Arunkumar, while addressing the gathering, prayed that games and sports may bring back normalcy and peace in Manipur, just as it has in other parts of the world.
Meanwhile, N Praveen, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports, highlighted India's young population and the need to make youth healthy and united to make the country invincible.
He also shared plans to develop sports infrastructure across 16 districts and make Khuman Lampak a "temple of sports".
The day also witnessed the felicitation of Thangjam Kirankumar, treasurer of MOA and president of Manipur Amateur Karate Do Association on being elected as the technical chairman of the Karate India Organisation for the fourth time and on being conferred 9th Dan recently.
District Olympic Association, Thoubal also observed the day at the multipurpose indoor stadium of its Thoubal Kshetrileikai Haotabi office.
The programme organised on the theme- Move, Learn Discover Together For A Better World was attended by District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer, Deven Moirangthem; president of District Olympic Association Thoubal, Mutum Mani and retd Assistant Director of SAI NERC Takyel, Konsam Michael and members of different sports association in the district.
Speakers at the programme stressed on the importance of the theme and the role of youth in realising the goal.
District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer, Deven Moirangthem also lauded the district Olympic association for organising such an important event and encouraged all the athletes of the district by assuring forms of assistance from his office.
