Manipur suffer 147-run defeat to Nagaland in second Ranji Trophy Plate Group tie

Imphal, October 21 2024: Manipur suffered a 147-run defeat to Nagaland in the second tie of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group competition at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Dimapur.

Chasing 309 runs for the win, Manipur resumed their second innings at 96/2 (in 29 overs) but went down fighting at 257 runs by adding 161 runs in 63.1 overs today to hand Nagaland, who posted 237 runs in the first innings and declared at 306/5 in the second innings, a 147 run win.

Kangabam Priyojit who was on 20 till yesterday (at stumps on Day 3), anchored well for Manipur and completed his half century today but was bowled out for 89 runs ( off 256 balls) by Jagadeesha Suchith for the 9th wicket.

Priyojit was the second batter in this innings to score a half century for Manipur after Md Al Bashid (61 off 78 balls) who was bowled out by Nagaho Chishi for the second wicket at 86 yesterday.

Johnson 23, Pheiroijam Jotin 18 and Prafullomani 32 also managed double digit figures for Manipur in this innings.

Nagaland skipper Rongsen Jonathan returned with best bowling figures of 5/81 in this innings as J Suchith finished with 3/81.Manipur, who suffered 9-wicket first game loss to Goa, will play Mizoram in the third match from October 26 .
