52nd Junior National Aquatics C'ship : Lanchenba shatters National record in 200 m butterfly

Imphal, August 21 2026: Manipur's swimming sensation Laitonjam Lanchenba bounced back from a Day 1 silver to capture gold and shatter the National record in the 200m butterfly on Day 4 of the 52nd Junior National Aquatics Championships being underway in Bhubaneswar.

Shrugging off the opening-day disappointment, Laitonjam Lanchenba shattered the 200 m butterfly National record for Group-I (B) boys in 2:03.73 and added the gold medal to Manipur's tally.

The previous record time was 2:13.20 .

Finishing second in the competition was Dhrupad Ramakrishna who clocked 2:08.90 as Yagna Sai Mongam of Andhra Pradesh took 2:09.32 to settle for the bronze medal today.

Lanchenba, son of Laitonjam Kanta and Takhellambam Sonia of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai, who currently reside in Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai, turned heads of many last year shattering three National records in the Boys Group-II competition last year in Ahmedabad.

He reads in Class XI (Arts) at Nongpok Maheikol.

Lauding his exemplary performance at the junior Nationals, the Manipur Swimming Association also wished him continued success in his future endeavours.

The championship hosted by Odisha Swimming Association under the aegis of the Swimming Federation of India will run till August 23 .
