State Level JN Hockey Tournaments begin

Imphal, August 21 2024:
State Level JN Hockey Tournaments for U-15 boys and U-17 boys and girls kicked off today at Khuman Lampak, Imphal under the aegis of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
5 district teams clubbed into two groups are participating in the U-15 boys tournament while U-17 boys and girls' tournaments are featuring three teams apiece.
In the U-15 boys opening match (Group A), Kakching team represented by Iramdam Maheikol, Langmeidong sealed a 5-3 win over Imphal East team represented by Jai Hind High School, Mantripukhri.
Arison Akoijam starred with a double in the Kakching team's victory as K Dhinaraj, A Rohit and Kahor Kasar added a goal each.
All the goals were field goals.
The Kakching side rode on a goal apiece from Arison (10') and A Rohit (12') to enjoy a 2-0 first period lead before W Indrews of Imphal East scored a field goal in the first minute of the second quarter (16') to make it 1-2 .
Kahor Kasar and K Dhinaraj however took their turns in the 24th and the 29th minutes to further extend the lead to 4-1 at halfway mark.
Y Toresh of Imphal East converted a penalty corner 2 minutes into the third quarter to make it 2-4 but Arison scored once again 8 minutes into the fourth quarter (53') to give his team a 5-2 advantage.
S Josh Singh further managed to pull back a goal for Imphal East two minutes away from time (58') .
Jiribam (Lalpani Govt HS) will play Bishnupur (TG English School) in the lone Group B match tomorrow from 10 am before Thoubal (Five Star English High School) play Kakching in the second Group A match from 3.30 pm.
U-17 Boys
Three teams- Jai Hind High School, Lalpani Govt HS and UNACCO School representing Imphal East, Jiribam and Imphal West respectively are competing in the U-17 boys tournament.
The opening match of the tournament staged this afternoon saw Jiribam district team crush Imphal East team by 10-1 goals courtesy of four goals from Ch Rakesh Babu and two goals apiece from Bidyananda and K Sanjit.
Rakesh Babu scored two field goals back to back in the 7th and the 14th minute to make it 2-0 after the first quarter before Bidyananda scored a field goal in the 19th minute and converted a penalty corner in the 21st minute to make it 4-0 .
The scoring spree continued for the Jiribam side with K Sanjit and Rakesh Babu scoring a goal apiece in the 23rd and the 27th minutes and eventually the team led the first half of the game (2 quarters) 6-0 .
Jiribam boys continued to dominate the game with better understanding among the players and added three goals courtesy of Sanjit (34'), Rakesh Babu (39') and W Derish (43') in the third quarter to make it 9-0 .
Kh Aryan converted a penalty corner for the Imphal East team in the 52nd minute and it proved to be their only goal for them as Don Ngasepam made the most of a penalty corner for the Jiribam team in the 59th minute to see out the game 10-1 .
Imphal East will play Imphal West in the next match tomorrow.
U-17 Girls
The opening match of the U-17 girls team in the meantime saw Five Star English High School, Thoubal district romp 4-0 past Jai Hind High School, Mantripukhri, Imphal East.
Thoubal girls led the first quarter 2-0 with M Linthou (9') and Ng Langlen (12') adding a goal apiece before Ng Nivedita made it 3-0 after 28 minutes.
Ng Nevidita Chanu scored another goal in the third quarter (36') to make it 4-0 against their Imphal East rivals before the team drew blank in the fourth quarter.
Imphal East will play Kakching in the next match tomorrow morning from 7 am before Thoubal play Kakching in the last league match from 3.30 pm .
