Imphal, November 20 2016: LBYC, Longmai edged past GUFA, Gaipuinam 6-5 via the sudden death while KYC, Kalalong downed CYDA, Chingkhulong 2-1 today of the Xth Jadonang memorial football Pre-Quarter final round at THAU ground.

In the morning match of the day, GUFA and LBYC were evenly matched with neither team giving any space to each other.

Both teams started the match warily, preferring to keep their defence tight and never really opening up.

The match petered out to a tame draw with neither team able to prise open the tight defence line. The tie break was ultimately resorted to and even here the two teams were evenly locked with both successfully converting the five kicks each.

Sudden death was ultimately resorted to and LBYC managed to keep its nerve to find the mark while GUFA shot wide handing the match to the rival team.

The second match of the day between Kalalong (KYC) and Chingkhulong (CYDA) was entertaining with both teams evenly matched.

After a barren first half, which saw an entertaining match, Loveson Kamei of CYDA managed to find the loopholes in the defence line of the rival team and after outstepping a couple of defenders managed to slot home the ball in the 68th minute.

Stung by the goal, KYC put more men on the attack and went on the offensive.

Shingkhiu Pamei did the star turn for KYC, when he managed to latch onto a long cross from the wings and managed to bang home the ball in the 70th minute to restore parity.

Thereafter both teams played a free and flowing game testing each other repeatedly with some fast running down the flanks.

The winning goal for KYC came in the 90+19th minute of the match when Shingkhiu rose to the occasion to fire home a well placed goal that beat the outstretched hands of the custodian of CYDA.

DYC, Dimdailong will take on NYC, Namthanlong tomorrow at 7.30 am while ZESDO, Zeihkuluang will meet DYC, Dimdaijang at 1.30 pm at the same venue.
