8th Youth National Boxing Championships : Ambekar, Joyshree clinch gold as Radhamani settles for silver; Lanchalu Gangmei, N Prabin bag bronze medals

Imphal, April 19 2026:
Manipur capped off the 8th Youth (U-19) Men and Women National Boxing Championships held since April 13 at Assam Don Bosco University with 5 medals including 2 gold.
Lairenlakpam Ambekar secured the men's 50 kg category gold medal today via a 5-0 unanimous decision against Uttarakhand's Priyanshu Varma in a one sided final bout.
Ambekar, a student of NSA, Imphal is a promising State boxer who also made his mark at an International event by securing a silver medal at the recently concluded World Boxing Futures Cup in Thailand.

Chirom Joyshree meanwhile sealed the women's 54 kg category title by handing her Haryana rival Jannat an RSC defeat in the third round.
Joyshree is another silver medallist at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 .
Radhamani Longjam however settled for a silver medal as she went down 2-3 via split decision to SSCB's Prachi today in the women's 57 kg category final bout.
Radhamani trains at Sarita Regional Boxing Academy and was a bronze medallist at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 .
Manipur's Lanchalu Gangmei and Naorem Pravin on the other hand bagged bronze medals at the age group competition.
Lanchalu, competing in the women's 48 kg category, suffered a 0-5 semi-final loss to MP Sambrama of Karnataka yesterday to content with the bronze medal.
Sambrama went on to win the gold medal of the category by defeating Gunjan of Haryana in the final.
Prabin, who trains at PKBA, also suffered a similar semi-final defeat to SSCB's Prashant to win a bronze medal in the men's 70 kg category competition yesterday.
The State team were led by L Chitaranjan, Y Rishikanta, Y Priyo and Dr M Kalpakiran as managers and coaches while L Sarita Devi acted as overall caretaker, said the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) in a congratulatory press release issued today.
Further, Ph Dhanajit and L Premanand attended the event as National Technical officials and Bidyanand Salam Star-One R&J officiated in the championship, it said.
MABA while extending its heartfelt congratulations to all the medallists and participants who brought great honour and pride to the State through their outstanding achievement and performance also wished continued success in their future endeavours.
