Imphal, December 18 2019: AFC, Thoubal beat AIM, Khabam Lamkhai 3-1 on penalties as SSU, Singjamei saw off KPFC, Kha Potsangbam by the same margin at Mapal Kangjeibung in today's matches to earn last 16 round berths in the ongoing 62nd Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament-2019 .

In the first match of the day AIM and AFC were goalless till the end of the regulation time despite the two teams having fair share of chances on both halves and eventually the winners were decided via tie breaker wherein AFC emerged on top with 3-1 advantage.

Sahidur, S Thomas and Y Sobha did the scoring for the Thoubal side in the shoot-out as only L Gobind made it to the target for AIM.

Meanwhile in the second match, L Roshan scored twice in the opening half to help SSU thump KPFC by 3-1 goals and set up pre-quarter final clash with AFC, Thoubal.

The match started with a bang as SSU found the net early in the 4th minute when L Roshan capitalised on a reflected ball to beat KPFC keeper.

SSU's H Shital could have registered the goal in his name but his shot after a fine cross delivered by Binodkhana from the right flank into the penalty area, was blocked by KPFC keeper before the reflected ball fell to L Roshan, who made no mistake in tapping the ball into the net with a quick feet.

KPFC were unable to mount an immediate response as SSU continued to press with fine passes and better understanding until S Bikash converted a fine chance to equalise in the 24th minute and gave the team some fresh hope.

It was an eye catching move by the Bishnupur team as S Kaphoi had brought the ball up well dodging past few defenders and set it for S Bikash.

But there was no much reason for the team to rejoice much as L Roshan who was giving them a tough time with threatening runs on multiple occasions, grabbed his second and helped SSU retain the lead in the 43rd minute taking advantage of defensive lapse.

After enjoying a close 2-1 lead in the first half, H Shital who was lurking inside the box connected well to a beautiful cross from near the right corner and sent it past KPFC keeper in the 71st minute to put SSU in the front-foot with two goal advantage.

KPFC also laboured hard to return into the game and cut the deficit but to their disappointment, SSU managed well to keep all threats at bay and surge home 3-1 .

DM RAO, Sekmai will meet FC Lamjao in the next match on December 20 at 11.45 am while JYSC, Kangpokpi will take on TRAU, Kwakeithel latter at 2.15 pm .
