Imphal, April 18 2025: Imphal Riding Club, Lamphel and X-Polo Club, Wangkhei were crowned men and women's champions in the 31st Governor's Cup Men's Invitation Polo Tournament and 20th Governor's Cup Women's Polo Tournament 2025 .

The tournaments organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association at Mapal Kangjeibung culminated today in the presence of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla; H Deleep, IAS (retd) and honorary president of MHRPA and Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary (Agriculture/Forest and Works), Government of Manipur as presidium members who also led in distributing prizes to the participants.

Imphal Riding Club defeated Assam Rifles Women's Polo Team by 7-6 goals in a thrilling 5-chukker final match to seal the women's title this afternoon.

The two sides remained locked at 6-6 after four chukkers as Assam Rifles fought back in the final chukker after a fiery start to the game.

Imphal Riding Club however emerged victorious as M Priya slammed home the winner in the fifth chukker in the 6th minute.

Assam Rifles Women's Polo Team led the first chukker 3-1 as Oinam Veronica added twice and Oinam Victoria added one for the team before Th Tana scored one for the Lamphel side.

M Priya and Kh Habe scored a goal apiece for Imphal Riding Club in the second chukker but H Pitu added one goal for Assam Rifles Women's Polo Team to keep her team ahead by 4-3 goals.

Imphal Riding Club however turned things around in the third chukker with Tana scoring twice and Kh Habe scoring one against one scored by Veronica for Assam Rifles Women's Polo Team.

Imphal Riding Club drew blank in the fourth chukker but Veronica scored her fourth goal of the match to make it 6-6 and put her team back into contention.

The two sides exchanged runs in search of the winner in the additional chukker until M Priya found the target to earn Imphal Riding Club the title of the 4-team knock-out tournament.

Meanwhile in the men's final staged later, X-Polo Club reigned supreme with a 5-2 thrashing of MPSC-B .

X-Polo Club had a positive start and secured a 2-0 first chukker lead thanks to goals from Th Santosh and L Atangba.

L Kokeshor further extended the lead to 3-0 after 6 minutes of the second chukker before T Pradeep pulled back a goal for MPSC-B to make it 1-3 .

Neither team found the target in the third chukker but Th Jacob quickfired two goals back to back within 3 minutes of the fourth chukker to give X-Polo Club a commanding 4-1 lead.

S Abungcha scored MPSC-B's second in the fourth minute of the final chukker but it was too late for the team to fight back.

Eventually, X-Polo Club walked away 5-2 winners.
