Imphal, September 14 2026: The Sainik School Imphal U-17 football team have departed for New Delhi to participate in the prestigious 65th Subroto Mukherjee Tournament, one of the oldest and most prestigious school-level football tournaments in the country organised under the aegis of the Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society.

The team earned their berth in the National Tournament riding an impressive campaign at the Inter-Group Pre-Subroto tournament held at Sainik School Kodagu, Karnataka in June 2026, where it emerged as the champions after a series of hard fought contests against strong contenders from across the Sainik Schools Group.

It is a matter of immense pride and honour for Sainik School Imphal that the team will now represent not only the school but also the entire fraternity of Sainik Schools across the country on a National platform, said Sainik School Imphal in a press release.

The team carry with it the hopes and best wishes of the entire school community as it aims to bring laurels to the institution, it said.

Behind this achievement lies the sustained effort of the Coach, Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) and school staff, who worked closely with the players through structured training sessions, fitness regimens and tactical preparation in the lead up to the tournament, it said.

Principal Sainik School Imphal, Col A Rajiv conveyed his best wishes to the cadets and wished the team success in the tournament ahead, it added.
