Sports Associations, Thang-Ta institutions pay tributes to heroes of Anglo-Manipur war on Patriots' Day

As observed annually, sports bodies and Thang-Ta institutions also joined in paying tributes to the heroes of Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 today on the occasion of Patriots' Day at different locations.
Manipur Olympic Association led sports associations in recalling the valour of the State heroes who fought valiantly against the mighty British for the sake of the sovereignty and freedom of Manipur in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 during a ceremony held at Olympic Bhavan, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex today.
The members present also paid floral tributes to the photos of State heroes including Prince Tikendrajit and Thangal General, who were hanged on August 13 following the war, and observed two minute silence as a mark of respect.
Fencing athletes and coaches of the Regular Coaching Centre opened under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department also commemorated the State heroes in a function held at Fencing Hall of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The fencers also offered salute to the heroes.
Poloi Sports School, Chingarel Tejpur also joined in paying homage to the fallen heroes during a function which was attended by school functionaries, students and guardians.
Floral tributes were also paid to the State heroes during the programme.
Thang-Ta Maheikol, Yumnam Huidrom also fondly remembered the brave forefathers of the State in a function held at the training hall of the Maheikol at Yumnam Huidrom.
While paying tributes to the heroes, the members present also recalled the historic war of independence against the British and acknowledged their contributions towards safeguarding the sovereignty of the former Kingdom.
The Mangang Luwang Khuman Thang-Ta Cultural Sindamsang also commemorated State's brave forefathers who fought fearlessly against the British in the Anglo-Manipur War in a simple function held at the institute's office at Khongman Mangjil Mamang.
The artists of the unit also offered floral tribute and "Thangi Salute" to the photos of Thangal General, Bir Tikendrajit and Paona Brajabashi as a part of the function.
