Independence Cup Karate Championship : Manipur shine with 29 medals including 12 gold

Imphal, August 11 2025: Manipur karatekas produced impressive performances to finish the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship with a rich haul of 29 medals including 12 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals.

The event held from August 7 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi organised under the aegis of Karate India Organization by the All India Seiko Kai Karate Federation & Bharat Karate Academy, India concluded yesterday.

The athletes who won gold medals at the championship in kumite events are Ng Poreinganba (U7; -20 kgs), Ng Laleiba (U7; +25kg), Rajkumar Kabir (U9; +25 kg), Ng Sinthoibi (U11; -40kg), Ch Lerina (U11; -40 kg), Ng Sinthoibi (U11; -45kg), Ghanashyam Khaidem (U12; -40k), Rajkumari Ashakiran ( U12; -40 kg), Thongam Arish (U12; -55 kg), Kakchingtabam Lakshita (U12; -55 kg), and L Jackson (U13; -45 kg) as Rajkumari Ashakiran (U12) also won a gold medal in the Kata event.

Winning silver medal for the Manipur include W Leisemba (U7; -25 kg), Khuraijam Poirei (U9; -25 kg), A Alex Singh (U10; -30 kg), Laishram Poireinganba Meitei (U11; +45 kg), Thongam Malemnganba (U11; +45), Khuraijam Pareihanba (Cadet; -57 kg), Thokchom Loyanganbi (U12; -50 kg) and Thoudam Alex (U12; -50 kg) .

The bronze medallists in the meantime include Chanchan Chanu (U8; -25kg), Rajkumar Kabir Singh (U-9 Kata), Ng Tomthinganba (U10; +40 kg), Th Mona (U11; +45 kg), Kakchingtabam Lakshita (U12 Kata), Soibam Yoimayai (U13; -55kg), Ng Lanchenba (Cadet; -52 kg), Ch Politics ( Cadet -70kg ) and Laishram Innocent (Cadet +70) .

The State team were led by Sensei N Surjit, Md Amir Khan and Sempai Nishikanta as coaches.

Renshi Soibam Bindeshori Chanu; L Jotinkumar Sharma and Sensei Arambam Greatson were among the officiating referees from the State.
