World Pro FC emerge champions of Khelo Bharat's 9-a-side football tournament

Imphal, July 09 2025: The State-Level 9-A-Side Men's Knockout Open Football Tournament, organized by Khelo Bharat, ABVP Manipur State concluded successfully this afternoon at the IRI Turf Ground, Maibam Leikai Heinoukhongnembi with World Pro FC as the champions.

The two day tournament organised in line with the National Students' Day celebration began yesterday and brought together 16 dynamic teams representing various colleges, universities, and football clubs across the State.

The closing ceremony was graced by prominent personalities, including: Sagolsem James, former Indian professional footballer and Technical Director of Poloi FC as chief guest; Kamlesh Singh, National secretary, ABVP and Dr Laishram Santosh, Khelo Bharat State In-Charge as guests of honour and Prof Premlata Meisnam, State ABVP president as functional president, said tournament coordinator in a press release.

The ceremony began with a vibrant and respectful welcome ceremony, where the dignitaries were honoured with traditional Lengyal Phee/shawls by volunteers, symbolizing cultural pride and heartfelt gratitude.

Kamlesh Singh, iin his address, emphasized the vital role of Khelo Bharat in ABVP's mission to foster youth leadership through sports.

He said, sports like football don't just develop physical strength, but also build discipline, team work, and National pride.

"Khelo Bharat is our platform to promote these values across educational institutions", he added.

Dr Laishram Santosh Singh highlighted how such tournaments serve as a catalyst for developing sporting talent in the region.

Football in Manipur is not just a game, but a way of life.

Tournaments like this ignite the spirit of brotherhood and peace.

Sagolsem James, in his chief guest remarks, elaborated on the global significance of football.

Prof Premlata Meisnam, President of ABVP Manipur, delivered an inspiring presidential address.

She connected the spirit of sports to the Nation's development goals.

Games and sports are integral to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, she said.

The final match of the 16-team tournament was played between World Pro FC, Lilong and Panthoibi FC, Langthabal.

After an intense and competitive game, World Pro FC, Lilong emerged victorious by a solitary goal.

Winners and runners up were distributed during the valedictory function.

In addition, Jajo Prashan of Panthoi FC, Langthabal was adjudged and feted with the best player of the tournament honour for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

The organizing committee of Khelo Bharat, ABVP Manipur State also expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participants, coaches, managers, volunteers, and dignitaries for their invaluable contribution to the grand success of the event.
