Manipur settle for three runners up titles at NE Zone Inter State Badminton C'ship

Imphal, September 07 2025: Hemam Malemnganba and Lourembam Thoungam settles for men's and U-19 boys singles runner up titles in the Yonex-Sunrise North East Zone Inter State Badminton Championships 2025 as Rohenkumar-Alen pair finished men's doubles runners up.

In the men's singles final.

Hemam Malemnganba went down 20-22, 18-21 to top seed Orijit Chaliha of Assam to finish second today.

Malemnganba had reached the final yesterday with a 21-18, 21-13 win over Tonmoy Bikash Boruah of Assam in the semi-finals while Orjit Chaliha got the better of Laa Talar of Arunachal Pradesh 21-13, 21-15 .

Lourembam Thoungam also ended up securing the runner up title in the U-19 boys singles competition after suffering a 12-21, 14-21 loss to Bomil Akash Changmai of Assam.

Thoungam made his way to the final with a 21-15, 21-17 win over Gavin Kharbuki in the semi-finals as Bomil Akash Changmai outlasted Taku Manku 21-14, 21-11 in another semi-final match.

Manipur's men's doubles title hopes were also dashed today as Haobijam Rohenkumar and Rajkumar Alen lost a thrilling final to Assam's Nibir Ranjan Choudhury and Swamaraj Bora with a score of 21-23, 19-21.Earlier, the Manipur duo had stormed into the final with a convincing 22-20, 21-5 win over Dai Weshi and Laa Robin of Arunachal Pradesh in the semi-finals.

In the other semi-final, Nibir Ranjan Choudhury and Swamaraj Bora had edged out Nagaland's Peramrisi Zeliang and Teichang Herie 21-19, 21-11 .

Earlier yesterday, women's singles competitor Konsam Gunjan, women's pair of Velinda-Diana and the U-19 mixed doubles pair of Ngangom Rishav and Konsam Gunjan suffered semi-final exit to settle for fourth place titles.

The zonal event was hosted by Tripura.
