The 2nd East Zone Sepaktakraw Championship has been kicked off at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today.
Six teams of Nagaland, Assam, Orissa, Mizoram, Tripura and host Manipur are participating in the men's category of the championship.
In the women's category Assam, Orissa, Nagaland and Manipur are competing for the championship title.
Played in round robin format, Manipur women's team beat Nagaland 2-0 (21-7, 21-7) in the Regu event to open the championship.
With identical set margins, Manipuri women scored convincing victories over Orissa and Assam.
In the other matches of the day, Assam beat both Orissa and Nagaland at identical set margins of 2-1 .
The match between Orissa and Nagaland was won by the former 2-1 .
With three victories from three matches, Manipur women team have stormed into the final of the championship.
They will be joined by Assam for the championship match tomorrow at 3 pm.
Orissa have won third position of the championship.
In the men's category Regu event, Manipur beat Nagaland 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) .
Results of other matches were Assam beat Orissa 2-0 (21-17, 21-15), Mizoram beat Tripura 2-0 (21-14, 21-9), Manipur beat Orissa 2-0 (21-11, 21-10), Nagaland beat Assam 2-0 (21-16, 21-18), Manipur beat Tripura 2-0 (21-3, 21-5), Mizoram beat Assam 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) and Nagaland beat Orissa 2-0 (21-11,
21-7) .
The opening ceremony of the 2nd East Zone Sepaktakraw Championship was graced by Minister of Transport, Education and Sericulture L Jayantakumar and MLA Bijoy Koijam as chief guest and functional president respectively.
