Imphal West earn both junior and senior team titles; K Priya- N Purnima win women's doubles crown .

The 38th Inter District and 64th State Open Badminton Championships-2019 being organised by Manipur Badminton Association kicked off today at Indoor Stadium, DM College Campus, Imphal.

The opening day of the championship saw Imphal West earn both junior and senior team event titles with emphatic 3-0 finishes while K Priya Devi and N Purnima pair won the women's doubles title.

Imphal West senior team eased to 3-0 win against Bishnupur team as Bidyasagar downed O Aimson 24-22, 21-15; Naorem Angita thrashed Angelina Amom 21-7, 21- 11 and Kh Punshiba-Rana pair undone Kh Romesh-O Aimson duo 21-17, 21-17.Imphal West's senior team made it to the final with an easy 3-0 win against Thoubal District in the semifinal.

Bidyasagar handed Imphal West the lead with a 21-11, 21-13 win against Nicky of Thoubal before Naorem Angita doubled the advantage by beating S Somibala of Thoubal 21-11, 21-11.Kh Punshiba and Rana pair then completed the 3-0 thrashing when they overcame Surchand and Y Punshiba pair of Thoubal district 21-14, 21-16.Bishnupur District on the other hand rode on O Aimson Singh, Kh Roshni and Th Romesh and T Bonson pair to seal a 3-0 win against MPSC to book the final berth.

O Aimson give Bishnpur District the lead with a 21-17, 21-16 win against MPSC's W James while Kh Roshni made it 2-0 when she downed Rebika L 21-14,22-20 in another clash.

Kh Borish and T Bonson pair then carved out a 21-16, 16-21, 25-22 win against L Momo and RK Cinir pair of MPSC to help Bishnupur District set up final clash with Imphal West.

Junior team event
In the junior final, Bidyasagar of Imphal West earned the teams lead with a 21-14, 21-17 win against T Bonson of Bishnupur District.

Daina of the Imphal West then ensured the title when she overwhelmed Angelina Amom 21-5, 21-10 in another clash.

Ritesh and Vikson pair prevailed 21-16, 21-13 over H Rohinikumar and RK Ringson in a doubles clash to help Imphal West claim the junior team with a clean 3-0 sweep.

Earlier in the semi-final, Imphal West beat Thoubal District 3-1 to make it to the final against Bishnupur District which got a bye.

Bidyasagar put Imphal East ahead with a 1-0 lead with his 21-13, 21-15 win against Nicky before Daina set up 2-0 lead as she secured a 21-16, 21-14 win against Sagorika.

Imphal West's Rajesh and Talentsana however went down 17-21, 18-21 in the hands of Thoubal pair, Bidhyachandra and Y Punshiba before Daina and Velinda helped the team bounce back with a 21-10, 21-10 win against Sagorika and Sona pair and made it 3-1 .

K Priya and N Purnima Devi win women's doubles title
K Priya Devi and N Purnima Devi produced a perfect partnership to win the women's doubles title today.

The pair defeated M Somibala Devi and N Angita Devi 21-16, 21-14 in the final to claim the title.

Earlier the duo romped past Ksh Khelpati Devi and RK Miranda Devi 21-9, 21-7 to book the final berth of the competition.

M Somibala Devi and N Angita Devi on the other hand sealed the final berth with a comfortable 21-10, 21-16 win against Ksh Maheshwari Devi and Y Dhanabati Devi in the first semi-final clash.

Boys U-19 Singles
K Nganba Singh eased into the last 16 round with a Hmanggte Vangneithang Kom 21-13, 21-14 win while Matic earned a 21-12, 21-10 win against Th Ronel to do the same.

L Akash Singh also entered the last 16 round with an easy 21-12, 21-10 win against Sumanta Waikhom in another clash of the day before Th Debabrata Singh beat Prithinganba Ng (21-8, 21-6); L Brikson downed Ajitsana N (21-9, 21-13).H Rohenkumar Singh, Sirzeet M, Th Hursh Singh (walk over), S Jotinchandra, Ronald RK and Ch Ritesh also made it to the round of 16 in the same competition.

Men's doubles
Kh Punshiba and L Unilkumar Singh entered the pre-quarter finals of the men's doubles competition after they carved out a 21-9, 19-21, 21-12 win against M Koireng Singh and Sanjot S today.

Ch Kapilchandra and N Nandaraj Singh also booked the last 16 round berth with a 21-18, 19-21, 21-17 win against Bidhyachandra Kh and S Manisana pair in another clash.

The pairs of H Rohenkumar Singh and RK Ringson; Prabin Hemam and RK Henry Singh; G Rajesh and RK Talentsana; and H Sushilkumar and Rupachandra A also earned wins against their respective rivals to enter pre-quarter final round.
