Manipur lad knocked down Swedish lad in World Muaythai Championship Bangkok

Bangkok, December 02 2010: It is a historic day today for the Indian Muaythai as Manipur lad has for the first time knocked down his Swedish opponent on the ongoing World Muaythai Championship here at Bangkok, Thailand.

N Boynao Singh of Manipur, who is part of a strong Indian Muaythai Team led by Oken Jeet Sandham, President of Muaythai Federation of India (MFI), fought against his tough Swedish opponent Byman Ulf in the 51 kg Male B category on the ongoing World Muaythai Championships here at The Mall Exhibition Hall of the famed The Mall Bangkapi, Bangkok today.

Singh was still leading in the first round.

But everyone got surpised when he knocked down his opponent from Sweden in the second round.

He hit his opponent with a Muaythai punch combined with a knee attack.

These two attacks in quick succession have brought his opponent down.

There was a profuse bleeding on Ulf's face due to a deep cut from Singh's punch and knee attack.

Singh will now fight against Tak Linno of Australia in the final match tomorrow.

It may be mentioned that Singh got walkover in the Quarter final as his French opponent Rachou Jeremy failed to turn up on November 28 fight.

Thus he entered into "Simi final" .

This is the first time, any fighter from India to reach final through knocking down his opponent.

On the other hand, Anshuman Behera from Orissa, who is also part of the Indian Muaythai Team, has lost in the Semi final to his Ukrainian opponent Remyga Iaroslav today in the 81 kg Junior Male category.

He is placed in third position.

Behera howere won silver medal in the last Asian Muaythai Championship held from June 26 to 30, 2010 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

It may mentioned that the Indian Muyathai Team in the current World Muaythai Championship at Bangkok is under Oken Jeet Sandham, President of Muaythai Federation of India.
