Manipur kickstart Junior Boys' NFC campaign with 2-1 win

Imphal, August 31 2026: Manipur lads kicked off their Junior Boys' National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy 2026-27 Tier-I Group A campaign with a 2-1 win over Assam at the Bengaluru Football Stadium this morning.

Both Manipur and Assam started cautiously, entering the break goalless.

Manipur however emerged as 2-1 winners, with substitute Md Ejajur Rahman scoring the decisive goal just three minutes before the final whistle.

After a series of close chances following the changeover, Muskan broke the deadlock in the 56th minute to put Manipur ahead.

However, the lead was short-lived as Edward Hmar struck an equaliser for Assam in the 71st minute.

Both sides made frantic efforts to find a winner, but the defences held strong until Md Ejajur, who subbed in for Muskan in the 62nd minute, beat Assam's custodian Kaustav Sonowal in the 87th minute to restore Manipur's lead and seal the victory.

Manipur will face Kerala in their next match on September 2 .
