8th AMFA Senior Women League for BM Trophy NYTHC, ESU eke out narrow victories

Imphal, February 28 2017: NYTHC, Okram Chuthek and ESU, Wangkhei eked out narrow wins against the respective rivals in the ongoing 8th AMFA Senior Women League for BM Trophy at Artificial Turf ground, Khuman Lampak today.

In the first match of the day, hard work plus some degree of good fortune helped NYTHC down a fighting YWC, Langthabal by 2 goals to nil.

The scoreline belied the competitiveness of the match as both teams were evenly matched and both fought till the end for ball possession and territorial supremacy.

NYTHC shot into the lead as early as the 10th minute of the match when the ball went to an unmarked Kemkom, following a tussle near the penalty box of YWC.

Neatly trapping the ball, Kemkom managed to keep her cool and despite the defenders of YWC suddenly crowding her, managed to break feee and unleashed a power packed shot that beat the custodian of YWC hands down in the 10th minute.

Stung by the goal, YWC put their best foot forward and played to a plan to break through the defence line of NYTHC.

However despite the good work initiated from the midfield, poor finishing and the tight defence of NYTHC denied them any chance to get a clear look at the goal.

It was against the run of play that NYTHC found their second goal.

With the forward lines of YWC swarming the defence line of NYTHC, the defence line of NYTHC was stretched to the limit and they only had the option of relying on quick counter attacks to keep up with the fast paced game.

In the 66th minute of the match, the forward line of NYTHC managed to break free in a sudden counter attack and brought the ball to the penalty area of YWC.

In the melee that followed, Basanti scored an own goal sealing the fate of YWC in the 66th minute and handed the match to NYTHC.

The second match of the day was equally intense with ESU and MPSC equally matched with both teams playing with their hearts out.

MPSC shot into the lead in the 17th minute of the match when A Shakhitombi did well to shake off a couple of defenders and found herself face to face with the custodian of ESU.

Keeping her cool, Shakhitombi did well to find the far end of the net and put her team, MPSC, ahead.

Stung by the early goal, ESU put more men on the attack and they started raiding the territory of MPSC with intensity.

Using the mid field well, they managed to make inroads into the territory of MPSC quite often, but the tight defence line of the police team lived up to their reputation and thwarted all moves.

The offensive move paid off when Kashmina found the equaliser with a good shot that found the net in the 40th minute.

After the lemon break, ESU continued with their offensive play and they went into the lead in the 80th minute of the match when I Premeshori found the target.

Shortly later Kashmina was at it again when she scored in 80+ minute of the play and helped ESU carve out a 3-1 win over MPSC.
