Man drowns in Loktak Lake

Bishnupur, August 12 2024: A man who went put to fish at Loktak Lake was found drowned on Monday.

This is the second such incident after Haobijam Tompok, alias Manichandra (39), lost his life trying to prevent fish in the lake's phumdi ring from escaping on July 28 .

Victim of the latest drowning case has been identified as Oinam Thika (58), s/o Brajamani of Ningthoukhong Kha Ward No 5 .

According to family reports, Thika went fishing as usual but did not return at his usual time.

Locals searched for him and discovered his boat floating upside down in the lake.

They found his body trapped underneath phumdis (floating biomass).
