Imphal, September 19 2014 : A man from Manipur, who allegedly raped and murdered an 11-year-old girl, was lynched by an irate mob in Mellori village of Phek district in Nagaland yesterday.

The village is located adjacent to Manipuri's Jessami village in Ukhrul district.

The victim was studying in a mission school at Jessami village.

Local sources said that a carpenter of Jessami village, identified as Thoiba allegedly raped and murdered the girl on September 17 .

Jessami village youth rounded up the carpenter the same day and handed him over to Mellori Women Society.

The source added that an angry mob brought out the man at the village playground and lynched him there yesterday.
