Imphal, March 25 2011: The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, 1960 (MLR&LR Act), could be extended in the hills areas if the hill people have the willingness and desire, said Revenue minister Th Debendro in the House of the state Assembly today during the question hour.

While asking the question, MLA U Deben of CPI observed that due to the non-extension of the Act, the hill people are facing utmost inconveniences while applying for loans as they have no land in their names.

To avoid this inconvenience and to safeguard villagers shifting their houses when they have quarrels with village chiefs, there is the need for extension of the Act in the hill areas too, he added.
