Imphal, March 18: The 88 Bn BSF has dedicated a 'welfare centre for women' at Wangjing Tekcham today with DIG BSF (SHQ CI Ops) GK Sharma inaugurating the centre in the presence of Commandant of the BSF unit Sham Kapoor today.

Presenting 10 sewing machines and one television set to the welfare centre, GK sharma stated that in the very near future, such welfare centres will be opened in other villages of the area of responsibility of the Battalion, informed a BSF statement.

While iterating that women folk was very essential to the overall well being of the society, the DIG humbly remarked that today's presentation is only a small beginning as the BSF is committed on judicious implementation of many welfare programme for the ladies, elderly people, youth and other sections of the society.

Vote-on-Account placed: Tripura Finance Minister, Badal Chowdhuri has presented the Vote-On-Account totalling Rs 1151.30 crore for three months for 2007-8 in the Tripura Assembly.

Elections to the 60-member Assembly were held on February 23.
