Imphal, April 01: A formal ceremony of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chuksu-Garoumei) was held today at Zeliangrong building, Paona Bazar.

A statement issued by Zeliangrong Union disclosed that the solidarity is being observed in commemoration of the historic ceremony observed by the forefathers of Zeliangrong community on April 1, 1934 at Tamenglong HQ.The sacred customary rites performed during the ceremony was aimed at cleansing all sins of inter-village feuds, intra-tribe wars and other avenging killings committed in the past centuries and to restore and strengthen the bond of unity among the Zeliangrong tribes, informed the statement.The ceremony which included prayer for a prosperous future, also forbade village feuds, intra-tribal wars and any further bloodshed thenceforth, it mentioned.
