After the agitating oil tanker drivers have finally come to an agreement with the IOC authority today, the drivers' stir to stay off the roads has been called off.
The drivers have been agitating since February 22 against the reported harassment meted out to them by IOC's marketing manager of Chingmeirong depot Amar Jyoti Bordoloi and supervisor PC Kumar.
Speaking to reporters here this evening, president of the All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union Bhupenchandra Ghosh informed that the agreement was reached at a meeting attended by FCS officials, IOC officials and the Union's representatives today.
Subsequent upon the agreement, the proposed chakka bandh and economic blockade have also been suspended, said Bhupenchandra.
The agreement between the two sides was on nine different points which include investigation into the incident of manhandling a driver by officials of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Chingmeirong deport.
The investigation should be completed within three months.
The IOCL authority also agreed to provide water and toilet facilities to tanker drivers.
The other points of the agreement include allotment of the erstwhile site of FCS godown at Koirengei as temporary parking space for the oil tankers and to develop a parking lot at the North Eastern side of the new oil depot.
The IOCL officials also assured that Vehicle Tracking System will also be implemented from March/April this year.
