Imphal, October 22 2024: The Health Department has banned the consumption, manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of Gutkha and Pan for one year with immediate effect.

A notice issued by the Commissioner of Food Safety Manipur stated that manufacture, storage, distribution or sale of Gutkha and Pan masala (containing tobacco or nicotine) and chewing products whether packaged or unpackaged has been banned under regulation 2,3,4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction of Sales) Regulations, 2011 for being injurious to health.
