Imphal, January 20:
Greeting the people on the occasion of Statehood, which falls tomorrow, Governor Dr SS Sidhu in a statement today said that since attaining Statehood on January 21,
1972, Manipur has made progress on various fronts.
However much more needs to be done to take the State into a higher orbit of development, he noted and added that
the continued violence arising out of insurgency and ethnic strife, besides blemishing the glorious tradition of peaceful co-existence amongst different communities
has been hampering the pace of economic development.
The wheels of development can move faster only in an atmosphere of peace, he noted.
On the occasion of Statehood
day, the Governor appealed to all sections of the people to sink petty differences and work together to ensure peace so as to provide a conducive environment for accelerating the progress of development.
