Imphal, June 14 2026:
The COVID Warriors Association has urged the State Government to give first priority to 309 contract nurses recruited in 2020 during Covid-19 in all upcoming nurse recruitments.
Speaking at a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, executive secretary Wahengbam Sonia said the Directorate of Health Services had appointed 309 nurses on contract basis through DPC in three phases during the pandemic.
"When families avoided even their own kin, we risked our lives as frontline warriors", she said.
She noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured priority to those who served over 100 days of Covid duty, and these nurses had served more than that.
Sonia appealed for their reengagement, adding many now face age-bar issues for new Government jobs.
She asked the Government to recognise their service and grant them first priority in nurse recruitment.
