Imphal, August 09 2025: Unidentified persons suspected to be underground militants placed a hand grenade at the residential gate of former Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Hijam Tombi (82) at Tera Yengkhom Leirak in Imphal West, early this morning.

Upon receiving information, a Lamphel police team cordoned off the area and waited for the arival of a State bomb disposal squad.

The bomb was safely retrieved at around 8 am and later detonated at the Lamphel dumping site at 8:45 am .

A case has been registered at Lamphel police station regarding the incident.
