Betel nuts worth Rs 12 lakh seized

Senapati, December 06 2025: Assam Rifles, Maram seized two trucks (Tata 4x4) carrying around 10,920 kgs of betel nuts/supari without valid documents on December 4.The seized articles were later handed over to Maram Beat Office under Mao Range in Senapati.

In accordance with the Act in place, the team has filed 2 (two) Preliminary Offence Report (POR) .

Notably, this is the first major instance of covert operations carried out by the joint team of AR and Forest Department.

Investigation is underway and the seized articles would soon be disposed by way of auction.

The department has expressed hope that this confiscation will serve as a strict warning to all to refrain from engaging in illegal transport of forest produce, and will further encourage the citizens to report any such incidents to the authorities.
