Imphal, March 05:
The Nambul River Project Affected Pattadars' Association has demanded appropriate and expeditious release of compensation due to land owners.
Interacting with media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, Association's secretary N Jogendrakumar contended that residents on either side of the Nambul river stretch upto Naoremthong are yet to receive land compensation after the Project was activated in 1994 when the State was under the President's Rule.
The Project envisages development and widening of road on either flank of the Nambul river.
The secretary insisted that the affected landowners, till date, had been refusing to accept the compensation as the Government fixed the amount at the rate of Rs 22 per square feet.
Pointing out that in the Government gazette on Manipur Land Tax one square feet commands Rs 500, he proposed that compensation to the Project affected people be paid in consonant with the said rate.
While maintaining that inspite of establishment of road network along the Nambul river banks poor maintenance and invisibility of certain area from view of the same route is being allegedly capitalised by security forces to commit atrocities against arrested youths, the secretary said nearby residents have to frequently endure unwanted events.
