Imphal, August 30 2024:
The Meitei Leima has appealed to every Manipuri to cease work and stage a sit-in protest against the proposed rally of Kuki people at every locality tomorrow.
Speaking to the media at the temporary market shed of Khwairamband Keithel today, Meitei Leima convenor Salam Prabhabati further appealed to the people to demand enlistment of Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list and stripping of the same (ST) status from the Kuki during the protest tomorrow.
Saying that the proposed rally of the Kuki only aims to put all the blame for the unrest to the Meiteis, she appealed to all Manipuris to close all Government offices and keithels and take part in the protest tomorrow.
The violence in Manipur was the handiwork of some sections of Kuki people who want to break the State apart, Prabhabati added.
Further stating that some sections of Kuki people have also been scheming to portray Meeteis in the wrong light by spreading falsehood, she added that tomorrow's rally is also a part of their design to disintegrate Manipur.
The Meitei people have been restraining all these months, she said and maintained that all Manipuris should stand together at this crucial time to protect the unity and integrity of the State.
