Imphal, September 29 2026: A one-day interactive session was organised by Intas Foundation Apna Ghar for cancer patients and their caregivers at its office at Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal, Imphal, on Tuesday.

Speaking at the programme, Rita Khomdram, secretary of Cancer Survivors of Manipur (CASOM) and a certified cancer caregiver, said that cancer should not be feared excessively, as many people have successfully overcome the disease.

She said cancer patients can live for a long time if the disease is managed carefully and proper treatment and care are followed.

Cancer patients encouraged

Sharing her personal experience as a cancer survivor, Rita spoke about her journey of battling cancer and the financial, emotional and physical challenges she faced.

She shared how she overcame these difficulties and encouraged patients to remain hopeful and continue their treatment.

The participants actively interacted during the session and raised various doubts and concerns, which were addressed through discussion and experience-sharing.

The session also focused on emotional well-being, coping with the challenges of cancer treatment and the importance of support from family, caregivers and the wider community.

Rita also highlighted various activities undertaken by CASOM as a support group for cancer patients and cancer warriors, stressing the importance of peer support, awareness and encouragement throughout the cancer journey.

Intas Foundation Apna Ghar provides accommodation and support to cancer patients and their caregivers who come to Imphal for treatment.

Besides accommodation, it facilitates nutritional support, hospital transportation, counselling and patient-engagement activities.
