Farmers of Bishnupur convene meeting, several resolutions passed

Moirang, June 29 2025: In a major development aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the farming community of Ningthokhong-Phougakchao Ikhai, a joint meeting was convened today at Ibudhou Thangjing Shanglen located at Ngangkhalawai in Bishnupur district.

The gathering saw wide participation from COCOMI farmers' wing, local leaders, clubs, Meira Paibi and various social organizations of Ngangkhalawai.

The meeting was attended by COCOMI Farmer's Wing, AB Elangbam, president Moirang Kendra Loumee Sinmee and Nupi Lup, L Manglem, Ex-Zila Parishad member Ngangkhalawai Zilla Parishad, M Birchandra Meitei, chairperson Administrative Committee Ngangkhalawai GP, M Brojen, President Tronglaobi Youth Association, S Uttamkumar, president Ngangkhalawai Meira Paibi, M Memcha along with other eminent leaders as presidium members.

After a thorough deliberation, the gathering resolved to i) work with local villagers to facilitate paddy cultivation in areas where agricultural activities have been disrupted, ii) mount pressure on the concerned departments to provide farmers with the necessary agricultural inputs as they strive to cultivate their paddy fields in vulnerable regions, iii) urge the relevant departments to disburse farmers' compensation for 2024, iv) request the respective DCs to take legal recourse to ensure that Meitei farmlands are not being tilled or cultivated by people from other communities and v) ensure collective effort to actualize the above resolutions.

The gathering also decided to form a committee, including a CFW member, in affected areas where it would be challenging to execute the aforementioned resolutions so that all activities can be undertaken in consultation with CFW .
