Two drug peddlers, arrested with brown sugar yesterday have been remanded to police custody till September 4.The arrested individuals have been identified as Ngaoloni (48) of Tadubi and S Davihai Mikrii (21) of Senapati.
From one of the vehicles they were driving, the police found and seized 30 soap cases containing brown sugar at Keishampat Junction yesterday.
The police had stopped one Tata Nexon car bearing Nagaland registration number and an Alto car bearing Manipur registration number - both travelling from Mayai Lambi toward Keishampat.
In the Court of the CJM, the Assistant Public Prosecutor submitted that on spot verification, the driver of the Alto car identified himself as Ngaoloni, and that of the Tata Nexon was identified as S Davihai Mikrii.
During the process, S Davihai Mikrii threw away his mobile phone at a drain at Keishampat Junction and this caused suspicion.
On checking of the Tata Nexon in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and mobile Forensic Science team of Imphal West, the police found 30 soap cases containing brown sugar hidden inside the car.
On questioning, the accused persons admitted that the contraband drug items were being transported from Chandel to Dimapur via Mayai Lambi.
Ngaoloni was escorting the Tata Nexon car and hence both of them were arrested on the spot, said the APP.
Hearing the submissions of the APP, the CJM ordered the remand of the accused persons to police custody till September 4.The CJM further directed the police to produce the accused persons before the Special Court ND&PS Manipur on September 4 .
