Tension grips Sekta

Imphal, August 28 2024: Tension gripped Sekta under Lamlai police station today as security forces clashed with the locals over the detention of a person who the police claim is a member of KCP (Noyon) .

As per the police, a combined team of Imphal East commandos, Lamlai police and Central forces carried out a search operation at Sekta at around 11 am on receiving inputs about the presence of some armed cadres there.

The police went to state that they also recovered a huge cache or arms and ammunition from a suspected hideout of KCP (Noyon) at Sekta Awang Leikai.

In stark contrast to the police claim, the locals of Sekta, however, alleged that the person is a village volunteer.

Soon after the the detention, a large number of womenfolk of Sekta rushed to the spot and demanded that the person be released.

A heated argument broke out between the two sides and the situation turned ugly when the security force tried to take the person along with them.

It is reported that the locals managed to set free the person by overpowering the security personnel.

To control the womenfolk, the security personnel also fired some round of tear gas shells.

There is no report of any major injuries during the police action and locals of the Sekta held an emergency meeting today evening regarding the incident.
