Imphal, July 27 2024:
Why should invitation be sent to the 10 Kuki MLAs who demand fragmentation of Manipur to attend the State Assembly session which will commence from July 31, asked Manipur State Council of CPI.
Addressing the media at Irawat Bhavan today, L Sotinkumar, former secretary of CPI, State unit, asked why this group of legislators who demand separate administration for Kuki-Zo people are still not disqualified.
He also said that the invitation sent by the Speaker to the Kuki-Zo legislators to attend the Assembly session can be cancelled if the members of the House don't approve it.
Technically, the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact signed between the Government and the Kuki militant groups expired on February 29, 2024 but there is no update from the Centre, he said while demanding abrogation of the SoO pact.
Claiming that the bridge being constructed in the adjoining area of Chandel and Churachandpur is a part of the strategy to establish a territory exclusive to the Kuki-Zo people, the Left leader asked why the Government is unable to stop the unauthorised construction.
He further said that a Highway Protection Force has to be deployed along National Highway-2 and National Highway-37 so that Meeteis could move along the highway stretches again.
The Union Budget 2024-24 also deliberately ignores Manipur , he added.
Meanwhile, Sotinkumar said that they will observe the 100th year of CPI on December 26, 2024 .
Saying that they will launch an intense campaign throughout the year to resolve the crisis in Manipur through political dialogue, Sotinkumar added that they will raise a demand to disqualify the 10 MLAs during their campaign.
CPI National council member Leishangthem Thoiren, on the other hand, said that they held a meeting of the executive meeting yesterday and conversed about the present political scenario in Manipur.
He also said that they held discussion on the alleged non-function of the privileged committee of the State Assembly and violation of the rules of procedures and conduct of business of the House following the demand of separate administration by the 10 Kuki MLAs.
Saying that all these Kuki 10 MLAs including two Ministers still get all the facilities of legislators and Ministers, he asked why the Government is unable to take any action against these 10 MLAs.
An action should be taken against the 10 Kuki MLAs in the upcoming Assembly session, he demanded.
