Imphal, June 27 2024:
After three houses were burnt down in Borobekra sub-division on Wednesday, suspected Kuki militants burnt down one house and a shop at Babukhal Khunou located next to a Kuki village about 9 Kms away from Jiribam district headquarters.
Compelled by the highly vulnerable situation, most residents of Babukhal village have been taking shelter in a relief camp opened at Jiribam town for the past one year.
Some Meitei residents went to Babukhal yesterday afternoon to take a look at their abandoned houses and they found the house of one Louriyam Tomba (45) s/o late Babasana completely burnt down by Kuki militants along with a shop and other properties.
Meanwhile, the Meitei residents have appealed to the State Government to reconstruct their houses which have been destroyed or burnt down by Kuki militants.
Saying that they want to go back to their own village, they also urged the Government to take up adequate security measures in and around Babukhal.
One villager said that Kuki militants, taking advantage of absence of security forces, have started burning down abandoned Meitei houses at Babukhal, Sabhughat and Boroikhal.
He urged the Government to look into the matter immediately and protect the Meitei houses.
