Churachandpur, June 27 2021:
Churachandpur broke its record for highest ever single-day Covid related deaths, witnessing 5 new deaths in as many hours on Sunday, a source privy to the information said.
The deadly streak reportedly began early as the first death was registered at about 9.50 am .
By 2.30pm, the toll count reached 5.The official count however missed one of the cases which was negative on test but was indicative of Covid Pneumonia in CT scan, as such cases were reportedly not included in Covid-19 counts.
Even by the official count of 4 deaths today, it is the highest for June.
Doctors involved in treating Covid-19 cases in the district have consistently maintained that one of the main reasons for Covid deaths is the late detection or delay in seeking medical attention.
Often people are reluctant to get themselves tested despite developing Covid symptoms.
This led to the delay in treating the patient as many came forward only when the patient's oxygen level drops at an alarming pace.
In many instances, such patients who could very well be saved if treated in time have missed the chances due to the delay in seeking medical attention.
The medical department has on their part made efforts to minimize such cases through mass testing and awareness campaigns at numerous levels.
Last week, it even hosted a Live talk show that was broadcasted on local cable TVs, to educate the public on the need for timely detection of the contagion as well as on the importance of receiving the vaccine.
On June 22, mass testing conducted at Muallum village in Singngat Sub-division sent the local authorities in a tizzy as 59 people from the village tested positive.
The mass testing was conducted at the village after it saw exceptionally high death cases in the past two weeks.
