Imphal, February 27 2025:
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has formed a high level committee to look into the demand of the All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters' Association (AMBTA) .
Notably, LPG bulk transporters were plying on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway) before they switched to NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway) following the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
Pointing out that NH-37 is quite longer than NH-2 and its condition is far deplorable which means lesser trips in a month and more maintenance, the AMBTA has been contending they are running into losses in transporting LPG along NH-37 .
The association has been demanding the Government to compensate for their losses.
Taking serious note of AMBTA's demand, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued an order on February 19, 2025 whereby a high level committee was formed.
The high level committee has CAF&PD Director, Government of India; Executive Director (LPG), IOCL; Executive Director and State Head, Indian Oil (Assam Oil Division) and the IOCL Convenor as members.
Although NH-37 is far longer than NH-2, POL transporters have been plying on NH-37 since May 3, 2023 considering the risks and disruptions they face on NH-2 .
As a result, the transporters have been spending extra money and the AMBTA has been demanding the Government to compensate the losses they are incurring.
The order issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on February 19 mentioned that the high level committee should submit a report within four weeks after looking into AMBTA's demand.
Appreciating the ministry's step of setting up a high level committee to look into their demand, AMBTA president A Tamphayai expressed gratitude to Chief Secretary PK Singh for understanding the transporters' woes and initiating necessary steps.
Claiming that the AMBTA's demand is quite reasonable, Tamphayai said that their proposed indefinite cease work will remain suspended considering the ministry's step of forming a high level to look into their demand.
